KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta has stepped up its efforts to curb smuggling in the region. Directorate Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmad Khan has made a new strategy which will help curb smuggling.
Sources told Customs Today that during a recent crackdown, the customs authorities recovered 400 batteries of 200 ampere which were being smuggled outside Quetta. Sources said that Director Customs Intelligence Imtiaz Ahmad Khan received information that some smugglers are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of batteries outside Quetta. He informed Collector Quetta Saeed Jadoon about it who constituted a customs team to thwart the attempt.
The customs team raided a factory and recovered 400 batteries from its godown. Customs team also arrested supervisor of the above said company along with two other accused persons. During initial interrogations arrested persons said that they are unaware about the original position of these factories, they only know that their owner stored these factories in the godown. The market value of seized batteries is Rs 10 million.
During another crackdown customs team thwarted an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of narcotics. Customs team during routine checking intercepted a passenger bus which were heading towards Karachi from Quetta. During checking process customs team recovered 200 kilograms of fine quality hashish from secret parts of the bus. Customs team arrested the driver and conductor of the bus and started investigations.
During initial investigations that they were going to deliver this hashish to a person who is residing on Sohrab Goth. Customs team also impounded the vehicle which were being used in transportation of these narcotics. The market value of seized hashish and bus is Rs 2.5 million.
It is necessary to mention here that customs team enhanced their surveillance in the area to curb smuggling attempts and during recent weeks they seized a marginal quantity of drugs, and other non-duty paid items.
