DOHA: The visiting high-level Belgian delegation signed various MoUs with Qafco.
Jean-Claude Marcourt, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economy, SME’s, Foreign Trade and New Technologies of the Walloon Government and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Higher Education of the French Community Government, lead a 15-member high level business delegation comprising of officials from the Belgian Government, media and University of Leige to Qafco.
Khalifa A Al Sowaidi, CEO Qafco, received the delegation at the Qafco’s Al-Banush Club Mesaieed. He was accompanied key officials from Qafco.
The delegation signed Memorandum of Understanding with Qafco to further the research initiatives that were taken with University of Liege earlier.
The MoUs aim at cooperation in research related to the use of urea as an essential component of healthy poultry feed to prevent the use of antibiotics in agriculture and livestock. Depending on the results, Qafco and University of Leige will cooperate in developing a pilot plant for producing the healthy feed and pro-biotic.
The MoU will also look at enhancing the fish biodiversity of Qatar using local hatcheries to deliver stocks either for indoor or outdoor (sea) purposes which will contribute to maintain the stock biomass of many Qatari species.
The MoU also intends to cooperate on research on cross breeding lamb varieties to enhance Arab or local species for meat purposes. It will include study on genetic stability and recurrence for a local production and farming.
Meanwhile, the two days of meetings and discussions between the Qatar and Belgium ended on a more encouraging note yesterday with the signing of a series of agreements such as DarziAlhazm & American Outfitters; Techno Q and Brandfirst; Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration and CEPANI (the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation); Ahmed Fakhroo and Chassis G. Hanin; Germin MED & KitoZyme; Al Abdulla Group Enterprise and Orient Drink; Gulf Organisation for Research & Development and VITO (Flemish Institute for Technology); Qatar University and VITO and Weil Cornell Medical College-Qatar and VITO.
