DOHA: The Dubai Police recently arrested three suspects and foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs, including 26kg of hashish, to Qatar.
Cooperation between police teams from the two countries helped in capturing the men and the seizure of the contraband.
The consignment was smuggled from an Asian country and hidden in a speed boat.
The three suspects were caught in Qatar’s regional waters after a chase by police officers.
Police said 26kg of hashish which was lifted from the sea in addition to other quantities of drugs which were found in their possession. The men threw the hashish in the waters using fishing tools known in the Gulf “gargoor”
In a letter, anti-drug officials in Qatar expressed their gratitude to the Dubai Police for passing valuable and accurate information on to them. The Dubai Police officers had put the suspects under surveillance and followed their movements since they left Asia and until they arrived in the Qatari waters.
They said the Dubai Police coordinated with Qatari officers and alerted the latter about the exact marine location and sites that the boat was going through, including the delivery point, the arrival time and remaining distance.
