DOHA: Qatar Sea Customs foiled the smuggling bid of a large number of alcohol bottles tried to be entered to the country in furtiveness way by smugglers inside wooden planks through Doha Port, which reached to 9 thousand bottles of customs value QR1.350 million.
Ahmed Youssef Al Sahl, Director of Sea Customs, said that smuggling operation was foiled in cooperation between customs and security authorities in the State by handing over the two containers using “AL MORAKEB” system to reach to the network of smugglers, then smugglers were raided in the evening in the storage site at the industrial area by members of preventive security and found with them 9 thousand variety of alcohol bottles in boxes hidden inside wooden planks in furtiveness way and through camouflage process.
He said that the accused have been referred to Capital Security Police for investigation and completion of the legal procedures of the smugglers and reservation of the seizures, after that General Authority of Customs shall follow-up the matter with the security authorities.
Al Sahl stressed on that General Authority of Customs seizures large quantities of banned substances, which are hidden in furtiveness and unexpected way, emphasizing on the intelligence and skill of customs officers to identify new ways of hiding contraband.
It should be mentioned that General Authority of Customs detected during the past few years a large number of wine seizures, which were hidden by smugglers in different ways, where a large number of wine bottles have been seized in soap containers and one more time in oil containers.
