DOHA: Qatar Customs officials have seized 340 consignments of drugs, including hashish, heroin and marijuana, at the old and new airports last year.
A consignment of 17kg marijuana was seized at Doha International Airport from a passenger coming from an Asian country on a direct flight. Three packets of the contraband were found hidden in the passenger’s clothing.
Another consignment of 1.5kg opium was seized from the baggage of an Asian passenger. It was concealed in the bottom of the bag.
A passenger coming from an Arab country was arrested with 5,357 pills of tramadol, hidden in eight tea packets in the bottom of the luggage, at Hamad International Airport.
Four food packets containing 3kg marijuana were also impounded at the airport. A passenger from an Asian country was carrying them.
About 22,500 pills of captagon were seized from the luggage of an Arab passenger after officials searched his bag. In another case, officials confiscated 52 reptiles, including snakes. They were kept in six cloth bags. Another Asian passenger was arrested with 5.5kg marijuana concealed in a wooden cover placed on top of a bag.
