LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Finance, Excise & Taxation Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that proposal to impose tax on agriculture is being considered.
He said this while talking to delegations of political workers. The minister said that property tax, motor vehicle tax and tax on services were major sources of provincial income and the government was taking solid steps to simplify the tax collection system. Tax has been levied only on affluent segments of society and money collected through it is used to launch public welfare projects, he added.
He said that the government was spending Rs 244 billion on education which was 26 per cent of the total budget for the current fiscal year. An amount of Rs 102 billion is being utilized for the provision of standardized health facilities which is 10.9 per cent of the total budget, he added.
