KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday directed Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to submit a report on a petition that questions its powers to regulate the prices of CNG, explaining whether it has authority to fix the prices.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, who headed a division bench, gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by the owners of CNG stations challenging the Ogra’s power to fix the CNG prices.
Advocate Abid S Zuberi, who represented the petitioners, submitted that it is prerogative of the all stakeholders to decide the prices of CNG but Ogra illegally and without any legal backing regulating and fixing CNG prices.
The Ogra’s counsel submitted that OGRA notify CNG prices on the recommendation of the federal government. When asked about OGRA’s notification regarding fixation of the CNG prices, he sought time to place the same on record. Adjourning till 22 October, the bench directed him to submit a report including notification at the next hearing.
