LAHORE: Punjab Police knowingly arrested four innocent women and handed over the ladies to anti-smuggling authorities calling them smugglers of cloth after failing to mint money from them.
“We have released the women, who include widows as they processed locally made cloth which they sell on small business scale, earning their livelihood,” a customs senior official said, adding that the police accused them of being smugglers of cloth.
“We set them free following a little investigation and legal process,” the customs official said.
The women including Samar Bibi, Razia Bibi and Ruqaya bibi while talking to this scribe said that they purchased cloth from Azam Cloth Market on credit and sold them on retails to their regular customers.
“The police knowingly indulged us in the hardship as we refused to pay Rs 200,000 bribes to the police,” Kalsoom bibi, one of the ladies said.
The women urged the top authorities to take stock of the issue and bring the Punjab Police officials including one ASI Jamil Ghaffar to the book for committing wrong to them on purpose.
