ABUJA: Imo Police Command has apprehended the alleged killers of a customs officer who was gruesomely murdered while on duty at Umuhu Ngor-Okpala along Owerri/ Aba Road in Imo State on September 23, 2015.
This was made known by the state’s commissioner of police, Taiwo Lakanu while briefing newsmen yesterday at the Command headquarters, Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
According to him, two of the prime suspects one Chibuzo Ike of Umuota Umuota, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of the state and his cohort, Henry Ndubuisi Simon from Amakoahia in Owerri North LGA also from Imo State were arrested in a hideout at the outskirt of the city following a tip off.
He revealed that the two suspects after a painstaking investigation by operatives of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Command, led operatives to the hide out of other members at World Bank area in New Owerri where the AK47 rifle and its magazine assigned to the slain Customs officer was recovered.
The police boss further revealed that exhibits also recovered from the suspects include one Mazda 626 saloon car belonging to the slain Customs officer, one bucket containing suspected IED materials, two small batteries and one small rod.
According to him investigation is still ongoing while concerted efforts are being made to apprehend other members of the gang who are still at large.
