ISLAMABAD: The agreement between Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) and Sri Lankan Ministry of Ports and Highways seems to be in doldrums.
Similarly, project of handling of millions of tons of coal through PNSC does not seem to be materialized.
While talking to Customs Today, Secretary Ministry of Ports and Shipping Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad observed that the current political situation had hindered visit of Sri Lankan President to Pakistan therefore PNSC could not ink the said agreement with Sri Lankan Ministry. He however was optimistic about getting the said agreement inked soon.
When asked about his engagements with Punjab government for the shipment of coal for independent power producers (IPPs) situated in Punjab province, he said that all such activities had been stopped due to focus of the government on protest demonstrations and massive flooding in the country.
However, he observed that all such activities would definitely be carried out for the benefit of common man as the condition is normalized.
