ISLAMABAD: A team of Federal Board of Revenue led by Chairman Tariq Bajwa will brief Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the tax policy measures taken to overcome revenue collection shortfall in 2013-14 and steps to check ongoing smuggling and evasion of customs duty.
Sources said that FBR’s team of tax managers is actively preparing a presentation for the Prime Minister. The meeting is expected to take place on March 10 at the PM House. The delegation will comprise of senior FBR members.
According to sources, the presentation would mainly focus on two major areas, streamlining tax collection during current fiscal year and measures to check ongoing smuggling at borders particularly Pak-Afghan border area. The FBR will inform Nawaz Sharif about the current pace of revenue collection during 2013-14. The FBR has witnessed 26 percent growth in revenue collection by provisionally collecting over Rs 168 billion in January 2014 as compared to Rs 132 billion in January 2013. Increase in revenue collection has been witnessed due to effective monitoring of withholding taxes, checking revenue leakage of sales tax and impact of the budgetary measures resorted to in 2013-14.
