LAHORE: Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has welcomed the decision of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to fix export targets for commercial counsellors appointed in embassies abroad and termed it a step in right direction to promote the exports of the country.
Chairman PIAF, Mailk Tahir Javaid in a press statement issued here on Monday said that the decision to fix export target for commercial counsellors was old demand of business community, particularly exporters and participants of international fairs and exhibitions. PIAF Chairman said that no country could increase its export without active participation of its embassies in abroad.
Malik Tahir Javaid said that the delegations organized by TDAP should be prepared in close consultation with chambers to ensure greater representation of private sector and international trade events such as trade fair and single country exhibitions that play a vital role to enhance the exports.
Malik said that it has been noticed that embassies of our neighbouring countries are playing very active role in promoting trade diplomacy all around the globe in close liaison with their trade supporting organizations. The commercial sections of these embassies are found proactive and the commercial counsellors remain busy in studying market trends of their relevant countries. He proposed that the TDAP should also ask Pakistan’s embassies abroad to give necessary awareness to the business community about the new trends and trade related legal requirements of any particular country or a trading block.
Malik Tahir Javaid said that the exports are an area where little focus can revive the economy in shortest possible time. Therefore, PIAF Chairman urged the govt. to appoint only those people as commercial counsellors who have some business experience as well.
