PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of narcotics worth Rs3.3 million on 29.11.2018.
According to the details, Director Customs I&I Dr. Arslan Subuctageen received credible information that a sizeable quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from Punjab in a Toyota Prius car. In pursuance of the said information, the staff of I&I held a secret naka near Rashakai Interchange, district Nowshera.
The suspected Toyota Prius car bearing registration no: LE-13-6873 was spotted coming from Peshawar side. It was signaled to stop but the driver sped away. After a chase of 20 minutes by the staff of I&I in official vehicle, the driver of the suspected vehicle managed to escape leaving vehicle on the road side.
The vehicle was searched on the spot by the staff of Drug Cell and found contraband (charas) tactfully concealed in secret cavities of the vehicle. The vehicle was then brought to the premises of Directorate, Peshawar where thorough search led to the recovery of 27 packets, weighing 33 kilograms charas (gross), which was seized along with carrier vehicle.
The estimated value of the aforementioned seized narcotics and vehicle is around Rs8.5 million (narcotics Rs3.3 million and vehicle Rs2.5 million). FIR No 65 dated 29.11.2018 has been lodged against unknown accused persons while further investigations are still underway.
