PESHAWAR: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) unearthed mega scandal of customs clearing 384 containers with fake declaration papers at Torkham Border.
The Director Customs Intelligence and investigation Rashid Habib Yusufzai told Customs Today that 384 containers were detected which were cleared with fake declaration papers at Torkham Border alone.
The containers loaded with dry fruits were cleared with description of tomato and other vegetables.
According to Peshawar I&I officials its mal-gambling of importers, customs clearing agents and customs officials pose loss of billions to national economy. The directorate of I&I initiated investigation to unearth mega scam upon the directions of director Rashid Habib.
It was further revealed that I&I squad examined goods along declaration papers. The Customs Intelligence found irregularities against which investigation has been initiated. Almond and festa were imported by paying taxes of tomato officials informed Customs Today.
The Customs exchequer has been debited with loss of billions by some corrupt officials and importers.
Recently Customs officials on duty at Torkham Border witnessed rapid increase in mutual trade activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The mutual trade has been increased from $1.5 billion to $3 billion dollars which can further be enlarged by plucking leakages to the flow of national economy.
The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also demanded to ban Afghan transit goods imported through Wagha border from India. The Chamber representatives told Customs Today that these containers have arrived from Waghar to be dispatched to Afghanistan under Pak Afghan Trade and Transit agreement.
