ISLAMABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar in coordination with the Khyber Pakhtun Khawa police has seized Rs21 million smuggled and non duty paid goods like, air conditioned, foreign origin cloth, cylinder heads, LED and electronic kettles.
Sources told Customs Today that in pursuance of an information anti smuggling staff with the help of KPK police intercepted a truck carrying 20ft container near Ring Road Hayatabad Peshawar. Apparently the truck was loaded with smuggled and non duty paid Goods.
During the search of the truck that led to the recovery of the 26 LG brand Split Air conditioned,20,000 meters foreign origin cloth, 50 cylinder heads of HTV, 4 LED TV and 64 electric kettle.
The CIF value of the seized goods and vehicle is around Rs.21 million. The source said that these goods were smuggle to Rawalpindi from Peshawar. The customs team asked the truck driver to produce the import documents, but on demand he could not produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of recovered goods and he admitted that they have no documents. It was clear that that these smuggled goods had been brought into the country in violation of provisions of section 2(s) and 16 of the Customs Act 196 and seized the recovered smuggle goods along with truck and arrest the truck driver.
Customs Intelligence team after registering a case of smuggling against accused persons started further investigations. It is necessary to mention here that Customs Intelligence authorities expedited their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
