PESHAWAR: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Unit Peshawar on Friday took into possession three dumper trucks loaded with foreign origin cloths and cosmetics worth Rs160millions.
The sources informed Customs Today that customs officials got injured in a fight with smugglers. The customs sources said that the Anti-Smuggling Unit Peshawar was on a routine duty near Peshtakhara area of Peshawar when three dumper trucks arrived from Hayatabad industrial zone.
Customs Inspector Nouman directed other customs staff Rahimdad to check the trucks but they started fighting with the customs officials. The fight went on for half an hour and the customs staff was able to engage the smugglers until the squad arrived to provide the backup.
Customs Inspector Nouman, customs official Rahimdad and Waqas Khan arrested four accused smugglers along with Rs160million worth’s NDP items. The customs staff has lodged an FIR against the held accused along with 25 other accused smugglers whose names were known from initial interrogation from the apprehended smugglers.
It is to mention here that Police SHO Ijaz Khan of PS Peshtahara Police Station reached the spot to rescue customs officials from the smugglers who were more in number.
During the fight with the smugglers, Inspector Nouman got injured along with other two customs officials.
Customs Inspector Nouman is said to not only have showed bravery by impounding the NDP goods but also took hold of the accused despite having less force.
