PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Customs has impounded non-duty paid goods worth Rs 2570.89 million in last two (March-April) months of current financial year 2017-18.
The sources in the Customs Collectorate informed Customs Today on Thursday that upon prior tipoffs from Deputy Collector Obaid Khan, anti-smuggling units of Torkham Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign-origin weapons into Pakistan and arrested the smugglers and seized the weapons.
The impounded goods include vehicles, foreign-origin cloth, spare parts, cigarettes, utensils, decoration pieces, batteries, generators along with other item of commercial use.
Upon prior information pass on by Deputy Collector Peshawar, the Kohat anti-smuggling units had thwarted an attempt to smuggle cloths and cosmetics to Punjab and have impounded a Mazda truck loaded with NDP goods. The anti-smuggling units have arrested the drivers and registered FIR against the culprits.
The anti- smuggling units of Mardan and Shergarh has impounded various offending cars and truck loaded with NDP items been brought from Kharkhano market Peshawar on way to be delivered to Swat on the shortest route.
The ASO Nowsehra has confiscated a container loaded with Malaysian wood and foreign origin tiles from GT Road which also have added valuable part to the revenue collection of current FY.
Deputy Collector Customs Obaid Khan also directed to use modern tools in order to encourage genuine importers and discourage smuggling of NDP goods.
The anti smuggling squad under the leadership of Collector Customs Mohammad Saeed Jadoon has been working very progressively towards the target of revenue collection during current Fiscal Year 2017-18.
