LAHORE: Pakistan Customs Land Freight Unit Wagha border Lahore has collected Rs 483 million revenue during January 2015 in the head of sales tax, duty tax and income tax.
As per available documents, Pakistan Customs has collected Rs 136531603 as duty tax, Rs 163204931 as sales tax, Rs 11518345 as additional sales tax and Rs 171171410 as income tax during one month.
On the other hand, Pakistan and India made trade worth Rs 4.53 billion via wagha border while exports from Pakistan remained Rs 978 million and imports were Rs 3.56 billion. So, the trade deficit stands at Rs 2.582 billion.
Experts are of the view that trade deficit could be reduced by increasing the production of domestic agro products. They said that Pakistan imported vegetables from India because their agriculture sector was more develop and subsidized. They suggested that government should take measure to increase the per acre production of fields by adopting latest technologies and providing facilities to farmers.
