KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East held destruction ceremony of confiscated goods at Gadap Town on 13-12-2019.
Member Customs (Operations), Dr. Jawwad Uwais Agha, was the chief guest at the ceremony. Madam Surayya Butt, Chief Collector Appraisement, Dr. Wasif Ali Memon, Chief Collector Enforcement, Mr Arslan Subuctageen, Director General, Intellectual Property Organization and Dr Nadeem Memon Collector, Collectorate of Appraisement-East were also present at the event. The dignitaries and the representatives of different law enforcement agencies were also present.
Dr Jawwad Uwais Agha, Member Customs (Operations) talked about the role of the customs in safe guarding the commercial borders of the country.
He stressed that Pakistan Customs is working vigorously to root out the menace of smuggling from the society. He also told the audience that Pakistan Customs has now been accepted as the lead agency to curb smuggling and stressed on the staff to work dedicatedly for achieving this goal.
Dr. Jawwad Uwais Agha, said that Customs has been given task of major anti-smuggling agency. All departments of Customs have been tasked with special assignments of anti-smuggling at all ports and custom stations. In this regard, the staff is provided with the necessary training, logistic support and technological tools to combat the smugglers.
Collector Appraisement East Dr Muhammad Nadeem Memon, apprised the audience about the anti-smuggling activities of different customs formations. Dr Nadeem Memon told that there are 34 consignments comprising 75 containers not fit for human consumption, expired pesticides and cosmetics, tobacco products, expired seeds and dates and different other products confiscated by Appraisement-East having worth of Rs 211 million. He further mentioned that Appraisement-West confiscated 12 consignments having worth of 56 million of goods imported against violation of Import regulations.
Then, there are also Narcotics weighing 715 kgs including heroin 25.75 kgs, charas 27kgs and crystal 650 kgs, 65517 bottles of liquor and 72 cases of cans, 756 tons of betel nuts, gutka 19.8tons, supari and Pan Masala 621kgs and miscellaneous other goods seized by (Preventive), Karachi having value of Rs 988 million. He further informed that even the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi has also seized 240 tons of betel nuts, tobacco weighing 2.5Metric Tons, Chinese Salt weighing 4.7 Metric Tons and Hormone Injections of 11095 pieces and other goods having overall worth of Rs 215 millions.
The Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights confiscated 55 different imported and exported consignments having worth of Rs 14.87 millions in violation of Intellectual Property Rights violation.
