LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should not extend filing date of income tax returns every year in violation of its policies, an FBR official told Customs Today.
Seeking anonymity, the official said that according to the tax ordinance the final date of submitting the returns was August 31, while the department extended the date by violating the ordinance.
He said that new returns form was finalised even in September then how the taxpayers could file the returns on time. On the other hand, numbers of mistakes were highlighted by the taxpayers and their tax managers in the e-filing systems and forms.
He added that FBR should give sufficient time to the taxpayers to understand the new software; however it was more important to develop the updated software and forms timely even in the start of the fiscal year.
He added that due to the late launching of forms and confusion among taxpayers regarding the new systems, tax managers and taxpayers had to raise voice for the extension in tax returns date.
He also revealed that department would extend the last date of returns filing up to November 30 and it would not be extended more as like the last year.
