BUDAPEST: The number of companies in Hungary fell by a year-on-year 2.3% to 540,000 in the first quarter this year, with a little more than 6,500 companies being established in the period, down from more than 10,000 in the same period a year earlier, business information company Bisnode reported today.
The company attributes the decline to a high base, a period during which Hungarians rushed to establish companies before a minimum capital requirement was raised. Since the middle of 2013, about 2,000 companies have been founded every month. Before that, the monthly figure could reach 7,000, Bisnode added. Bisnode noted that the ratio of companies to people in Hungary about one for every 18 residents was still relatively high.
