NEW YORK: Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Sahuarita, Arizona man during a failed smuggling attempt at the Port of Nogales.
Officers at the Mariposa crossing arrested Francisco Javier Del Cid-Calderon, 23, after a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the Ford Mustang he was driving on May 5. During a secondary inspection, officers located nearly eight pounds of heroin, worth approximately $107,000, inside the engine manifold.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and referred Cid-Calderon to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
