KARACHI: The Customs, Taxation and Anti Smuggling Court Sindh is performing without a full time judge from the last eight months, resulting in piling up of at least 457 cases.
It is recalled here that the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs appoints the Judge of Customs Court. Chief Justice Sindh High Court makes three recommendations of which one is appointed for the office.
Sources said that the Customs, Taxation Court had a full time Judge but Justice Sophia Lateef was made Chairman of the Drug Court Sindh. After her retirement the Judge of Crimes in Bank Arshad Noor was made Link Judge of the Customs, Taxation and Anti Smuggling Court who is supposed to hear the emergency cases.
The Court is giving a deserted look and the lawyers and clients used to visit the Court and returned without hearings, sources added.
