KARACHI: The Nilofar Cyclone dread is likely to bring delay in arrival of shipments and clearance of consignments at terminals, including Karachi International Containers Terminal (KICT) and Pakistan International Containers Terminal (PICT), it is learnt.
Sources in Pakistan Customs informed Customs Today that the delay in examination of the consignments is expected due to predicted rain and threat of Nilofar Cyclone in the Arabian Sea. The Customs authorities may also face massive problems in upcoming days due to Nilofar Cyclone, as the containers would be accumulated at PICT and KICT in coming days.
Furthermore, the arrival of shipments would be delayed due to expected “Nilofar Cyclone”, as the ships have been opted an alternative routes and delay in starting its journey due to roughness of sea.
Assistant Collector Usman Tariq at KICT informed Customs Today that the examination and arranging of multiple and sensitive cargo is being stopped due to expected rain.
“The examination of the consignments continued as per schedule, but the examination of some containers with sensitive items is being halted keeping the view of its safety due to expected rain fall on Thursday and Friday,” he added.
Responding to a query, Assistant Collector Usman Tariq confirmed that the ships are being arrived as per schedule, although the process of arrival of the shipments may be delayed from next week due to Nilofar Cyclone as most of the ships have changed its directions while others have not yet started journey due to rough sea.
The Customs authorities concerned at PICT informed Customs Today that the examination was carried out as per routine at PICT, however; upcoming days would be difficult for Customs and terminal authorities due to much expected accumulation of consignments at terminal in connection with the predicted rains.
