ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has authorized 2,295 inquiries and 801 investigations during last six years as part of its measures to combat corruption and corrupt practices.
The year-wise data of inquiries issued by Law Division Ministry has showed on Tuesday that during year 2010 the authorities in Bureau authorized 242 inquiries, 359 in 2011, 232 in 2012, 284 in 2013, 887 in 2014 and 291 inquiries were authorized during 2015.
Similarly, regarding investigations authorized during the said period, the data showed that during 2010, 96 investigations were authorized by Bureau, 100 in 2011; 86 in 2012, 124 in 2013, 226 in 2014 and 169 investigations were authorized during 2015.
The Bureau during the period took different actions under enforcement regime after authorization of inquiries and investigations including arrest, placing the names of accused on Exit Control List (ECL), issuance of Red Notices, freezing of moveable and immoveable assets, and filing of reference in courts.
Moreover, during course of inquiries and investigations the accused came forward to return plundered money in form of Voluntary Return and Plea Bargain (VR & PB), as the case may be.
In this regard, the statistical data revealed that during the period, 681 persons were placed on ECL while Red Notices against 23 accused persons were issued.
Similarly, 687 references were filed in Accountability Courts in which 309 accused have been convicted so far.
According to year-wise breakup, during year 2010, 102 reference were filed and 67 accused were convicted, in 2011 71 reference were filed and 53 accused were convicted and in 2012, 95 reference were filed and 58 accused were convicted.
Similarly, during 2013, 119 reference have been filed and 53 accused were convicted, in 2014, 208 reference were filed and 44 accused were convicted while during 2015 so far 92 reference have been filed and 34 accused convicted.
Moreover, during the period, 1460 persons entered into VR and PB.
