MOSCOW: In a big step up for Murmansk Shipping, brokers report that it is the company behind the acquisition from Greece’s Centrofin of the VLCC Kalymnos (299,100 dwt, built 2000), a sale first reported on this site 10 days ago.
The acquisition represents Murmansk Shipping’s first VLCC. Its tanker fleet was made up of six suezmaxes. The 15-year-old ship is costing $39m, a price above the market average for its age, brokers suggest.
An official from Murmansk Shipping’s chartering department declined to confirm the acquisition when contacted.
Murmansk Shipping, whose history dates back to 1939, is, as its name suggests, primarily an Arctic focused line with activities in dry bulk, passengers, ice breakers as well as tankers.
