MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of blankets, cigarettes worth Rs17.50 million during anti-smuggling drive.
According to details, Customs Preventive received credible information from the source that huge quantity of goods will be transported to Multan through Dera Ghazi Khan Region. On the instruction of Collector Muhammad Saleem, Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi, Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmad Baloch formed special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization for strict vigilance in the jurisdiction to take action against smuggled goods.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization enhanced the patrolling on different suspected routes to thwart any smuggling attempt and recovered 16 foreign origin blankets, 90,000 sticks of cigarretes,3312 bars of chocolate ,200 pieces of milk cream along with different items during examination of goods loaded on truck.
Customs Preventive teams asked the driver to provide legal documents of the foreign origin goods .Upon failure in providing any import documents regarding the import of recovered goods. Customs anti-smuggling teams decided to seize all goods after thorough examination.
The recovered goods were smuggled through clandestine routes in the country and they were trying to transport non-duty paid goods in the local markets of South Punjab.
The total worth of the seized almond was almost Rs17.50 million and duty taxes of almost Rs15 million. Anti-Smuggling squad seized recovered goods under customs act 1969.Further investigations were under process.
