MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized huge quantity of contraband items worth Rs47 million in joint action.
According to details, Collector Muhammad Saleem received credible information from their source that huge quantity of contraband items smuggled through jurisdiction. Collector Preventive alerted the anti-smuggling staff in Multan and directed Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi to conduct joint operation with cooperation of Anti-Narcotics Force through strict monitoring of suspected routes to foil any bid of smuggling in the region.
Multan Customs Preventive formed special team including Inspector Abdul Samad, Inspector Umair Ahmed and others to take action against smuggled goods.
Following the directions of collector Preventive and ANF teams intercepted a suspected truck near Bahawalpur Bypass which was loaded with huge quantity of gutka.
Multan Customs recovered almost 138 sacks of Gutka. Each sack consisted of 200 packets of Gutka brand Safina. Customs teams recovered 2.989 million packets of gutka. The origin of recovered contraband items was India and they were smuggled through Afghanistan.
During investigation of Customs Preventive driver of the truck told them that truck was coming from Quetta and its final destination was Faisalabad.
Truck driver presented booking receipt of said goods to Customs staff. Customs Preventive staff seized the entire gutka and shifted the truck to Multan Customs House State Warehouse.
The value of the seized gutka is about s Rs4 million. Multan Customs seized the goods under Customs act 1969 and further investigation regarding the contraband items was still under process.
