MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch has lodged criminal case against suspects involved in smuggling of foreign-origin cloths seized by Anti-Smuggling Organization.
The Collector Preventive has foiled smuggling attempt in Sadiqabad after receiving secret information from source.
Souces told that Collector Mohammad Saleem received a tip-off that huge quantity of smuggled cloths will be transported from jurisdiction and formed special team of anti-smuggling staff to prevent any attempt of smuggling from territory.
Customs anti-smuggling teams enhanced patrolling of different routes of Sadiqabad to intercept them by deputing staff at entrance of different points for strict vigilance.
Anti-Smuggling staff intercepted a suspected 40 inches container near Zahir Peer area KLP road which was loaded with different foreign origin cloths including Chiffon, crinkle, polyester woven, fabrics and other ladies variety during their action. Said cloths were packed into different rolls and net quantity of recovered cloths was almost 17 tons during the action of Customs.
Owner of said Container failed to produce any legal documents to justify its legal possession regarding the transportation of the recovered cloths and told that he was going to Faisalabad for transporting said cloths.
Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch has lodged smuggling case against owner accused M/s Muavia Traders & Company Quetta , Ameer Hamza son of Salahuddin who is resident of Chamman area after thorough investigation. Customs Investigation and Prosecution team has also nominated M/s Sitara Usman Goods Transport for smuggling said cloths in the jurisdiction.
Customs teams lodged FIR No.14/18 against the accused after initial interrogation and further investigations are still under way.
