MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized huge quantity of smuggled foreign origin groundnuts worth Rs6 million from Dera Ghazi Khan in their action.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Khial Muhammad Khan received information that huge quantity of groundnuts will be smuggled through the jurisdiction. Deputy Director alerted his staff and formed a special team comprising Inspector Qaswar Shah, Inspector Muhammad Umer, Zulfiqar and Shakil ur Rehman to foil any attempt of smuggling.
Customs Intelligence teams enhanced patrolling of different routes of Dera Ghazi Khan to intercept them by deputing staff at entry points for strict vigilance.
Field Investigation Unit (FIU) Dera Ghazi Khan, following the directions of Deputy Collector Khial Muhammad Khan impounded a suspected truck bearing registration no: TLK-714 loaded with Foreign Origin 500 sacks of groundnuts near Dera Ghazi Khan.
Customs Intelligence Staff asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the recovered goods. But the driver of the truck failed to produce any legal documents to justify legal possession of groundnuts. The driver told Customs staff that he has booked said groundnuts from Chaman border and it was coming from Afghanistan.
Customs Intelligence staff seized groundnuts along with truck valued at almost Rs6 million and duty taxes of Rs3 million.
Customs teams seized groundnuts under Section 18, 32 of the Customs Act-1969 read with Section 3(1) (3) of the Import and Export Control Act-1969.
