MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) seized different goods worth Rs37.277 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Enforcement & Compliance Anti-Smuggling Organization received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported through Dera Ghazi Khan to Multan Region.
Collector Muneeza Majeed directed Assistant Collector Umer Sajjad to foil bid of smuggling. Assistant Collector formed special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization under the supervision of Inspector Mohsin Fiaz which also includes Inspector Saleem Khan and other to enhance vigilance to intercept suspicious vehicles.
Customs team started patrolling on the suspected routes and intercepted a container near Muzaffargarh which was loaded with different foreign origin goods. During examination customs anti-smuggling squad recovered 71 cartons of foreign origin cigarettes of various brands Modern, Pine and Milano. Customs teams also found contraband items of Ratan, one 2 one, Gutka, betel nuts in more than 200,000 sachets. Customs staff recovers old and used multimedia projector of assorted brands and models, motorcycle spare parts, 3420 kilograms of fabric in assorted colours and design, 4860 kilograms of skimmed milk.
Customs anti-smuggling squad recovered 100 kilograms of tobacco packed in sacks from container during examination.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization team asked driver to provide legal documents of foreign origin goods. Driver provided irrelevant GDs which did not match the goods. Upon failure in providing relevant import documents Customs Anti-Smuggling teams decided to seize said miscellaneous goods after thorough examination. The net value of recovered goods was Rs32.277 million while the value of vehicle is Rs15 million.
