MULTAN: Multan Dry Port wears deserted look as no consignment was available to handle due to official holiday in celebration of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to details, Multan Customs employees who are deputed at Multan Dry Port were present to perform their duties after Eidul-Azha but consignments for import and export were not available for handling.
The Multan Dry Port has cleared all pending shipments of imports and export before the official holidays of Eid-ul-Azha. Due to clearance of all shipments, no consignment was available to handle. The Multan Dry Port Trust was also present on the duty for facilitation of importers and exporters but there was shipment available at Port for clearance.
Importer and exporters were informed that Multan Dry Port will resume their operational activities from third day of Eid-ul-Azha. But majority of importers and exporters are resident of far flung areas and they went to their native towns for Eid-ul-Azha celebration due to which port activities were not restored.
Shipment company employees including drivers, laborers are also on Eid-ul-Azha vacation. Employees of Multan Customs who were assigned special duties at Multan Dry Port spent their most of time in chatting about their Eid-ul-Azha related activities. Sources told Customs today that normalcy will return to Multan Dry Port after weekend when business activities in the industrial and commercial sector will be restored.
