MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized huge quantity of smuggled tyres from Sadiqabad.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Fayaz Anwar received credible information from his source that different brands of smuggled tyres were transported in Sadiqabad region.
Sources told that these tyres were being transported from Sukkur division. Additional Collector Customs Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi formed special team comprising Inspector Asghar Purewaal and Inspector Rana Muhammad Sadiq and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling and directed anti-smuggling squad to keep strict vigil on the movement of smuggled vehicles and other miscellaneous goods to prevent smuggling.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization teams enhanced monitoring through patrolling of suspected routes and recovered branded tyres from suspected truck of goods company near Kot Sabzal Sadiqabad region which were loaded with huge quantity of foreign origin branded tyres.
Customs anti-smuggling squad recovered foreign origin tyres from truck during examination of goods. Almost 125 tyres were recovered during examination of Customs staff.
Drivers of the vehicles presented import documents of loaded goods along with bilities to Customs staff on their demand. Customs team found GDs as bogus after verification and recovered tyres of different brands their custody under Customs Act 1969. The value of seized goods was almost Rs1.5 million. Further investigations against recovered tyres are still under way.
