MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) seized huge quantity of skimmed milk powder, rani juices, chocolates, monosodium glutamate and other miscellaneous goods.
Sources told that Collector Muneeza Majeed received credible information regarding smuggling of goods and she directed Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi to thwart any attempt of smuggling. Additional Collector formed special team consisting Superintendent Habib-ur-Rehman, Inspector Muhammad Saleem and others to foil smuggling attempt.
In pursuance of the said information, anti-smuggling squad started surveillance of suspected routes to foil any attempt of smuggling. Customs team continued patrolling at entry and exit points throughout night and spotted the suspected container near bypass.
Anti-Smuggling Organization seized a container loaded with huge quantity of assorted brands of skimmed milk powder. Customs teams recovered 1236 bags of milk powder and net weight of skimmed milk was 30900 Kilograms. Anti-Smuggling recovered almost 1500 kilograms of monosodium glutamate during examination. Customs teams recovered almost 910 crates of Rani Juices, 10 cartons of chocolates, Éclair toffees and nestle milk powder during examination while the GD was old dated and irrelevant.
Subsequently, the container along with vehicle was seized under the Customs Act, 1969. The net value of the seized consignment was almost Rs66.056 million. The value of seized truck was almost Rs15 million. Further investigations regarding seized goods and vehicles were still under way.
It is pertinent to mention here that Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization is using all available resources to curb smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction, as smugglers are taking advantage of new wave of COVID-19 situation in the region.
