MULTAN: Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization seized the huge quantity of foreign origin consignment of Coconuts and almonds loaded on a truck from Multan.
According to details, collector Customs Preventive received credible information source that huge quantity of will be transported through Dera Ghazi Khan Region.
Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmed Baloch formed special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization comprises Inspector Umair Ahmed and others to foil any bid of smuggling.
Customs anti-smuggling squad enhanced vigilance and started patrolling in the suspected routes to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted a suspected truck loaded with foreign origin coconuts and almonds near Chowk Shah Abbas and conducted examination of loaded goods. Anti-Smuggling Organization team recovered 60 sacks of coconuts and 34 cartons of almonds kilogram of foreign origin almonds.
Customs teams asked driver of the said truck to provide legal documents of the foreign origin Coconuts and almonds. Upon failure of driver in providing any import documents regarding the import of the almonds and Coconuts. Customs Anti-Smuggling teams decided to seize almonds after thorough examination.
The recovered almonds and coconuts were of Iran origin and said goods were smuggled through clandestine routes in the country and they were trying to transport non-duty paid almonds in the local markets of South Punjab.
The driver informed Customs staff that he was coming from Quetta. The total worth of the seized almonds and Coconuts was almost Rs.4 million. Anti-Smuggling squad seized almond under Customs act 1969.Further investigations were under process.
