MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch has lodged FIR against suspects who were involved in smuggling of betel nuts, tyres, skimmed milk powder and other miscellaneous items seized by Anti-Smuggling Organization in Sadiqabad region.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector formed special anti-smuggling team which intercepted two 10-wheeler trucks containing smuggled goods concealed beneath layers of coal. Hino trucks bearing registration number: TKD-677/Quetta and TKX-602/Quetta.
It is pertinent to mention here that Customs Anti-Smuggling squad intercepted trucks near Zahir Peer road Sadiqabad on the credible information of their source .
During their action Anti-Smuggling Sadiqabad squad recovered huge quantity of betel nuts, Zafrani , new and old branded tyres, mononsodium glutamate, skimmed milk powder and other foreign goods from said truck in their action.
As the trucks were being escorted to the Customs office, the armed men in 3 vehicles who were providing safe cover to smuggling attempt appeared and blocked the road for snatching.
Their blockade attempt was successfully thwarted as the Reinforcement of other squads of ASO Multan reached the spot in time. Multan Customs staff forced the armed miscreants to retreat from the spot and they fled away in the dark. With high head and uplifted spirits, the trucks were successfully escorted to the Sadiqabad Dry Port Export Terminal
Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization found that Khuda Bux who was the consigner of the goods, Noor Ahmad, Khuda Bux, Qutab son of Shahid Jan, Khan Meer son of Gardi and Sitara Al-Nabi Transport Quetta were involved in the smuggling of recovered goods .
Customs Investigation and Prosecution lodged FIR FIR no.3/20 against the accused after initial interrogations and further investigations are still under way till filing of this report.
