MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E& C) Anti-Smuggling Organization has detained huge quantity of smuggled bitumen loaded on two trawlers from Muzaffarabad Road.
Sources told Customs Today that credible information f that huge quantity of smuggled bitumen was transported from Multan region. Deputy Collector Amjad Aman was directed by Collector Muneeza Majeed to take strict action against said bowsers and thwart their bid of smuggling.
Deputy Collector Amjad Aman formed special team including Superintendent Habib-ur-Rehman, Inspector Maqsood Ahmad and others to take action against smuggled bitumen.
Anti-Smuggling Organization team enhanced vigilance of the suspected routes. The ASO team intercepted suspected bowsers loaded with drums. Customs teams stopped the bowsers and they found huge quantity of foreign origin bitumen filled in the iron drums.
Customs teams recovered 50 metric tons of bitumen from each bowser which were weighted almost more than 100 metric tons .Anti-smuggling Organization asked driver of the bowsers to produce legal import documents of the said goods to justify its legal possession but driver failed to produce anything .
Customs Anti-smuggling Organization seized foreign origin bitumen after completing necessary requirements and also seized both bowsers along with huge quantity of bitumen.
The value of the seized bitumen was almost Rs6 million and the value of the trailer was around Rs3.5 million. Further investigations are still under way.
