MULTAN: The Model Customs Collectorate collected Rs 2.54 billion in the wake of duty/taxes during the first month of the fiscal year 2016-17.
The Multan Customs collected Rs 192.776 million under the head of customs duty during the said period, while the collection of customs duty stood at Rs 237.471 million during corresponding period of the last year 2015-16.
It collected sales tax to the tune of Rs 1.474 billion against Rs 1.905 billion collected during last year. The department observed a decline of Rs 431.089 million in collection of sales tax during July 2016.
Under the head of federal excise duty, the department collected Rs 15.118 million but it generated Rs 19.25 million in the outgoing fiscal year.
The Multan Customs generated Rs 15.078 million in wake of income tax during July 2016, while it collected Rs 35.703 million during previous year. It bagged Rs 1.867 million under the head of additional sales tax whereas the collection stood at Rs 1.209 million during last year.
Under the head of petroleum development levy at import stage of clearances of high speed diesel oil, the department generated Rs 841.337 million against Rs 949.791 million collected during last fiscal year.
It may be mentioned here that the Multan Customs collected Rs 3.142 billion during July 2015. But, the revenue collection decreased in July 2016 due to official holidays on the eve of Eid ul Fitr.
Officials said that revenue collection targets for new fiscal year have been assigned to the department, adding that efforts were being made to meet the targets.
