KARACHI: Investigation officer Collectorate of Customs Appraisement and Facilitation West submitted first information report (FIR) before the customs court against owners and proprietor of M/s Asri Trade Impex, Tahir Ahmed, proprietor of M/s Forward Corporation, customs clearing agent and others, who were nominated in a case of mega mis-declaration scam.
On 26 October 2020, investigation officer stated that on receipt of credible information that above mentioned importer is involved in clearance of spark plugs by under-declaring quantity and mis-declaration of description of goods, the modus operandi of importer was to declare spark plugs in boxes with a non elaborative description of just “non Iridium Spark Plug” to get assessed their goods by applying value of carbon tipped spark plugs of China origin under valuation ruling no 1422/2020.
He further submitted that during the examination, it was found that importer mis-declared the goods and customs officials recovered 3000 pieces of Platinum Tipped Spark Plug and 2,000 pieces of Nickel Spark Plug and tried to evade the duty and taxes in the tune of Rs759, 486.
He argued that first information report was lodged against the above mentioned importer and clearing agent for violation of under section 32, 32A, 79 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses, 14, 14A, 43, 44, 45 and 46 section 156(i)ibid, section 33 and 34 of sales tax act and section 148 of ITO 2001 other allied laws.
