LONDON: Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael is leading a delegation to participate in the 28th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly, an official statement said.
IMO secretary general Koji Sekimizu and delegates from other countries admired the presence of Pakistani delegation in the assembly session. The delegation comprised of Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Chairman Siddique Memon, General Manager of Planning and Development of KPT, Ghulam Ali Memon and the Director protocol-cum-liaison and council to the Minister for Ports and Shipping, Nouman Bashir Khan.
Michael revealed his plans for raising the profile of Pakistan in IMO during a meeting with the high commissioner of Pakistan, the statement said. The minister also informed him that Pakistan will contest elections for IMO Council under category ‘C’ during the IMO Assembly session scheduled to take place in 2015.
IMO Council elections in the three categories were the centerpiece of the recently held session where Pakistani delegation voted in compliance to the instructions of Foreign Affairs Ministry.
