BEIJING: Mercedes-Benz introduces its new ‘Coupe’ version of GLC SUV at Shanghai Auto Show. Due to be unveiled in the coming hours, the new GLC Coupe ‘Concept’ will enter as a smaller companion to the big GLE Coupe that debuted late last year.
Just as its larger stablemate was introduced to rival BMW’s X6, the new midsized Mercedes will take on the new X4 in the growing ‘Coupe’ SUV market.
As with the GLE, the new GLC revealed in this leaked photos obtained by Italian website Car Passion will wear the latest iteration of Mercedes’ new family styling, matched to a tapered roofline and a light layer of protective cladding.
The car that will appear in Shanghai this week is officially a concept, although we can expect very few changes to occur in its transition to production.
Thicker arms for the side mirrors are likely, and the concept’s extravagant exhaust arrangement at the rear will likely also be toned down before its showroom debut.
And, while the GLC Coupe will wear a coupe-like profile, we can expect its face to offer a clear preview of the more practical GLC SUV that will debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new GLC, which will replace the overseas GLK in Mercedes’ global line-up, is expected to hit Australia later this year, while the GLC Coupe should land sometime in early 2016.
