MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) anticipated business at the Ports of Manila to return to normal state within the next four weeks as the government trying to follow measures to resolve the jamming caused by the imposition of a day-time truck ban by the city government of Manila.
PPA general manager Juan Sta. Ana said that blocking at the Ports of Manila worsened due to the decision of the Manila City government to impose a day-time truck ban but we are hoping to clear the port in next four weeks.
Sta. Ana pointed out that the load of containerized cargo at the ports has resulted in inept operations. “Traffic being experienced right now is because of reclogging of the ports by containers brought up by the earlier ban and we expect that traffic will slowly ease up especially within the next four weeks.
Moreover, the empty containers are one of the major contributors to the Manila Port blockage so port operators have agreed to send empty containers at the ports of Manila to the Subic Ports and other ports. There are about 17,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) empty containers which are occupying spaces at the Ports of Manila, resulting in the blockage of port.
