LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Monday urged the government to take immediate measures to restore the supply of salt to chemical and allied industries as its shortage is hitting the industrial sector hard.
LCCI Vice President, Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi said that non-availability of salt would lead to closure of chemical and allied industries, while, thousands workers would lost their jobs.
He said that licenses of explosive material producers were cancelled soon after the Peshawar school incident, resulting in halting the supply to mines and mineral organizations.
Ghaanavi said Punjab Mineral Development Corporation has also stopped the supply of salt that was a basic ingredient of chemical industry and because of non-supply of salt, the chemical, textile, soap and ghee industries, power plants and water treatment plants could shut down any time from now.
He urged the government and district administration to immediately issue ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) for saving the industrial sector from loss of millions of rupees and workers from unemployment.
