LAHORE: The Regional Tax Office generated about Rs 25 million through 351 returns till the end of February 2016 under the Voluntary Tax Compliance Scheme (VTCS), announced by the government for traders.
The scheme was designed for non-filers of income tax returns as well as those who file the returns but underreport the income to evade taxes. In connection with this scheme, a team was constituted under the supervision of Chief Commissioner Tasneem Rehman and Commissioner (Zone-VI) Syed Mahmood H Jafri. The team headed by kashif Azher, Additional Commissioner and also focal person for VTCS.
To make this scheme successful, the RTO Lahore team arranged seminars, corner meetings; shop to shop and door to door visits to educate the business community about the benefits of this scheme and even make public announcements to attract the attention of those who are unable to attend meetings or seminars in districts Lahore, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.
In district Sheikhupura and Nankana, a team was constituted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Talat Mehmood Bosaal. The Sheikhupura team secured 85 VTCS returns out of 351 in total.
Meanwhile, the Regional Tax Office Peshawar collected Rs 2,352,830 (about Rs 2.4 million through 19 returns till February 29.
Similarly, the Regional Tax Office Bahawalpur generated Rs 17.916 million through 111 returns under the tax amnesty scheme during the corresponding period.
