PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has asked the federal government and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to refrain from taxing the overseas Pakistanis who are contributing in the national development by sending huge remittances.
The assembly also passed a joint resolution, urging the federal government to withdraw the tax imposed on entry and exit of international passengers. The resolution was tabled by QWP’s provincial chief Sikandar Sherpao.
According to the resolution, overseas Pakistanis are mainly from underprivileged backgrounds and are sending billions of rupees foreign remittances to Pakistan. As a result, imposing taxes on them will increase their woes and will develop a sense of hatred in their mind.
They said that instead of providing jobs and respect to the overseas Pakistanis, the imposition of tax is tantamount to snatching food and employment of our countrymen.
