ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has reviewed the performance of three main bureaus i.e. Karachi, Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and lauded the Karachi bureau for taking highest rating in 2015.
The performance of all NAB’s regional bureaus is being evaluated during January and February 2016 at uniform criteria. The Karachi bureau’s performance has been rated as excellent with 88 per cent operational efficiency index and recovery of Rs18.55 billion and disposed of 6,798 complaints during the corresponding year. In 2015, out of 270, 214 complaint verifications were completed.
According to the data, Karachi Bureau out of 407 inquiries completed 328 whereas out of 240 investigations 128 investigations were completed on merit. During 2015, it has arrested 172 corrupts and filed 101 corruption references during 2015. The conviction rate was 63 per cent and recovered Rs18.55 billion during one year which is a record achievement.
The NAB Chairman visited KP regional bureau in Peshawar to review its performance. The NAB KP received 4,060 complaints which were all in process according to the law in 2015. NAB KP out of 359 complaints verifications (CVs), completed 279 complaint verifications. NAB KP out of 339 inquiries completed 222 whereas out of 96 investigations, completed 57 investigations during 2015. It has arrested 149 corrupts and filed 53 corruption references during last year. The conviction rate was 80 per cent of Bureau and it recovered Rs943.783 million during 2015.
The Rawalpindi bureau performed worst as compared to NAB Karachi and KP bureaus. However it received more than 7,000 complaints during last year. In 2015, NAB Rawalpindi received 7,002 complaints which were in process according to the law. NAB Rawalpindi, out of 333 complaints verifications (CVs), completed 288 complaint verifications. NAB Rawalpindi out of 229 inquiries completed 128 whereas out of 96 investigations 52 investigations were completed on merit. NAB Rawalpindi arrested 69 accused and filed 48 corruption references during 2015. The conviction rate of NAB Rawalpindi was 78 per cent and it recovered Rs1441.755 million during 2015.
