KAPIT: Kapit Division Archery Association is facing a ‘red tape glitch’ with the new archery bows and equipment that it ordered from Kuala Lumpur through a courier service because the Customs Department at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has refused clearance for its import to Sarawak.
President of Kapit Archery Association Ting King Yiing, a pharmacist, was upset that the archery equipment of bow and arrows used for practice was prevented following the KLIA Customs Department’s refusal to clear the consignment.
He said this glitch has caused confusion and frustration to its members because they were denied the order through courier services.
Ting hoped the enforcement agency takes a relook at the items since the equipment is purely for sports purposes and it should not be classified as dangerous weapons.
He said the association is participating in the Sarawak Archery competition to be hosted by Sibu in December.
“If we are denied the equipment for training, how can we compete in the competition against all other divisions?”
He called on the Sarawak Sports Commissioner’s Office to intervene and clarify with KLIA Customs that the sports equipment is different from bow and arrows used in wild game hunting.
