AMMAN: The Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, inaugurated a 573MW power generation plant in Al Manakher area east of Amman.
The station, which was constructed by the Amman Asia Electric Power Company, will provide about 15 percent of the power supply to the current capacity of the electric network. The 573MW station is the largest diesel-fired power generation project in the world and was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
The prime minister said the project is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve sustainable economic growth, boost energy security and develop the energy sector infrastructure. The project, he added, is an important element in the national energy strategy which aims at meeting a growing demand for electricity and increasing electric power capacity. The venture prepares and expands the national electrical grid for additional loads in the future.
