ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized smuggled foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs17.5 million and arrested two smugglers.
Fahd Iqbal Rao Assistant Collector Anti Smuggling Organization told Customs Today that during early morning the ASO was on routine patrolling, when they stopped a Mazda truck at M2 Moto way toll plaza which was loaded with huge quantity of foreign origin cigarettes.
After stopping the Mazda truck, the anti-smuggling squad asked the possessor of the goods to show legal documents of loaded goods but they failed to provide any relevant document proof.
The squad intercepted the truck and made thoroughly search of a Mazda truck and found 100 cartons of Dunhill cigarettes, each carton containing 50 sleeves in value of cigarettes is estimated in worth of Rs. 13.5 million, the offending vehicle also seized, the value of offending vehicle is Rs. 4 million, total value approx Rs. 17.5 million, two people have been arrested and an FIR is being lodged by I&P (investigation and prosecution) while further investigation is under process.
The Collector Customs Collectorate Islamabad and Chief Collector North appreciated the squad for doing this outstanding case.
