LAHORE: Pakistan Customs set on fire and crushed illegal goods worth millions of rupees here at Wagha border on International Customs Day. The contraband items were destroyed under the supervision of the Customs Chief Collector Lutfullah Virk, Collector (Preventive) Junaed Akram, Collector of appraisement Zeba Hai Azhar and Additional Collector Asif Mehmood Jaa.
The chief collector Lutfullah Virk ignited the goods and articles. “We have crushed 30,000 liquor bottles, poppy seed, chars and a long list of contrabands,” chief collector, Lutfullah Virk told Customs Today.
Customs destroyed 29,779 foreign made liquor bottles, 4,995 grams of heroine , cosmetics items and miscellaneous goods including footballs, shampoo bottles, cigarettes, surgical items, medicines and chemical bottles, gutka (beetle nut), poppy, milk powder, film CDs/DVDs, tobacco, medical needles, hybrid corn seeds, mineral water, pharmaceutical raw material, face creams, shaving brushes, packing materials, books, food stuffs, brochures, silk coated covering sheets, key boards, electric appliances, etc.
The goods, articles and liquors were confiscated by various units of customs including state warehouse Shahnoor studio, railway station Wagha, railway station T-10, airport traffic Lahore, collectorate of customs appraisement Lahore, Mughalpura dry port, directorate of intelligence and investigation customs Lahore, LFU Wagha, NLC Dryport Thokar Niaz Baig and appraisement collectorate bond station.
Additional collector Sadia Moneeb, Deputy collector Rizwan Slabat, additional Collector Mohsin Rafiq, additional collector Ambreen Tarar, AC Iram Sohail, DC Amara Ahmad Mir, Maqaram Jaa, Superintendent Yasin Malik, Deputy superintendent Akhtar Joya, Lahore Customs Agents association President Agha Iftikhar and others were present on the occasion.
